I had everything that looked like success; a castle, my own company, family close by. And yet something in me could not settle. Something deeper was not being met. I wanted more. So I left.
Without money. No clear direction. Alone with my son. Living and travelling in a caravan.
What I did not expect was how confronting it would be. In a caravan, there is nowhere to escape. No distraction large enough to cover the noise inside. And in that small space, I met a new version of myself.
But what I really chose was responsibility. Not the kind of responsibility the world talks about: the steady job, the mortgage, the plan. I mean the responsibility of not abandoning yourself.
For years I had been escaping. Escaping my emotions by filling my life with the right-looking things. The caravan stripped all of that away. There was nowhere to hide and nothing to perform for.
And right there, in the most uncertain, resource-scarce moment of my life, I felt more free than I ever had.
Dreams and desires only become reality when we are willing to lose who we think we are supposed to be. That is not a motivational quote, it is something I lived.
I had to stop escaping my own emotions and start taking responsibility for them. Every feeling I had avoided, every discomfort I had outrun, it all caught up with me in that caravan. And instead of destroying me, it freed me.
The version of me who emerged from that season was quieter, more honest, and more powerful than anything the “good life” had ever made me feel.
You do not need to sell everything and live in a caravan. But most of us are running from something, and most of us have arranged our lives very cleverly so we never have to slow down long enough to feel it.
The shift I experienced was not about the caravan. It was about what happened when I stopped escaping and started listening. When I let myself feel, question, and rebuild from the inside out.
That is the work. And it is available to every woman who is willing to get honest about what she is actually running from, and what she is actually longing for.
