They told you it was too much. Too intense. That you feel everything so deeply and can’t you just lighten up? And you tried. You really tried. But something in you refused to pretend that things were fine when they weren’t. This is the Enneagram Type 4 at their most exposed. This is the Enneagram Type 4 at their most exposed.
But here’s the part no one asks about. It’s not that you struggle. It’s that everyone else seems to know how to just be okay, and you have never once figured out how to feel satisfied. Not deeply. Not for long.
Everyone else seems to know how to just be fine. I’ve never figured out how.
That’s not a flaw. That’s important information. And it tells you something specific about the Enneagram Type 4. Let me show you what it means.
You feel things at a depth most people don’t go to. You see what’s underneath: the unspoken grief, the longing behind someone’s anger, the beauty in the thing everyone else walked past.
You probably feel different. Not in a label you wear proudly, but in a quiet sense that you experience life differently than the people around you. More intensely. More fully. Sometimes more painfully.
And you’ve been misread for it. Called dramatic. Told you were making things about yourself. Left feeling like your depth was a burden instead of a gift. And underneath all of that: the quiet ache of never quite feeling satisfied, no matter what happens.
Your Soul Desire is authentic emotional connection, the kind where people can actually be felt and seen in their full complexity, without having to edit themselves first.
Your Existential Fear is having no identity. Being ordinary. Being so fundamentally unremarkable that no one would know you were gone.
So your Superpower, the ability to see what needs to be said and name the emotional truth in the room, starts running on that fear.
When it does, you stop expressing what’s real and start amplifying what makes you feel significant. You lean into the pain because at least pain is distinctly yours. You pull back into your inner world because out here, you keep not being understood. You make your uniqueness visible because if you disappear into the ordinary, you might cease to matter.
This is the Misused Superpower. Not self-indulgence. Your extraordinary emotional intelligence trying to solve the problem of significance. But the more you reach for significance through pain or distance, the further you get from the real connection you’re longing for. And the less satisfied you feel. Because significance is not the same as being seen.
The shift is not about feeling less. It’s about trusting that what you feel has value even when it’s not about you.
Your depth is a gift to other people. When you stop using it to secure your own significance and start offering it to the room, naming what’s unspoken, holding what others can’t hold, saying the thing that needed to be said, the quality of what you create completely changes.
Your Wisdom is learning to let your emotional truth move outward, into the world, as a service rather than a statement. And trusting that when you do, you become more visible, not less.
You don’t have to perform your depth. You just have to let it be in service of something larger than your own story.
When an Enneagram Type 4 moves into their Wisdom, they become the person people come to when nothing makes sense.
Not because you have the answers. Because you can be present with the full weight of it. Without rushing to fix it. Without needing it to resolve.
That is rare. Most people don’t have anyone who can do that for them. When you stop using your sensitivity to protect yourself and start offering it to others, you become one of the most needed people in any room you enter.
The connection you’ve been looking for your whole life? It starts the moment you stop trying to be special and just start being real. And the satisfaction you’ve been searching for, the one that never quite landed, starts to appear. Not because life gets easier. Because you stop being in your own way.
If this resonated, you might recognise someone close to you in one of the other types: Enneagram Type 1, Enneagram Type 2, Enneagram Type 3. Or read more about what the Enneagram of Personality is and how it works.
This session should cost over 100€. I’m confident enough in what we can do together in 60 minutes that I’d stake that on it.
But you don’t know me yet. And the coaching world has made it hard to know who to trust.
So here’s my offer: 30€. One session. Let me show you what the Enneagram actually does when it’s used properly. If it doesn’t shift something real for you, then you lost 30€ and a lunch. If it does, and I believe it will, you’ll know exactly what to do next.
Dare to take my hand?
