I grew up with my mom, dad, and older brother. My parents had working-class jobs. We went to school. We did not have much money. But I was taught something important: being rich is a feeling you create. A choice of how to see life.
I was destined to follow the system: college, university, one good job after another. And I did, for a while. But I was always moving on after three months. I was not aligned, and I knew it.
By the world’s standards, I did not have much going for me. I failed English, Spanish, and physics in school. I never had savings. I did not own a home. And yet here I am: living a life that most people would describe as extraordinary.
How? Not through luck. Not through a perfect start. But through seeds that were planted early and slowly became my reality.
My parents made me believe: there is always a way if you want it enough. Money comes and goes, so do not let that decide for you. Only I can feel the right answer. I cannot fail: I learn regardless. And above all: I am worthy of love regardless of my choices.
That last one is the most important. The unconditional worth. The sense that your choices do not determine your value. That is what keeps you moving when the storm comes, and the storm always comes.
We become the five people closest to us. We absorb their perspectives, their relationship to risk, their sense of what is possible. That is not a metaphor. It is literally how the human nervous system works: we co-regulate, we mirror, we internalise.
The life I have was not given to me. I created it: decision by decision, belief by belief, by consistently choosing to trust myself even when I had no evidence that it would work out.
And the most radical thing I did was surround myself with perspectives that expanded what I believed was possible. Not people who told me what I wanted to hear. People who helped me see more of what was true.
That is what changes a life. Not a dramatic leap. A steady, consistent recalibration of what you believe you deserve and what you believe is available to you.
